Donations have been flooding in for this year’s popular Blue Dragon Book Fair to be held in the Ngaio Townhall, Wellington over the weekend of 17 and 18 May. All proceeds will support the Blue Dragon Children's Centre in Hanoi.
Donations of good-quality books, DVDs, CDs, records, puzzles and board games have been flooding in. Trustees and many supporters have been presorting the books into categories such as New Zealand fiction, New Zealand non-fiction, biography, history, classics and children’s books.
Lending a helping hand
Students who belong to the Interact Club of Port Nicholson, a subsidiary of the Rotary International, have been lending a helping hand.
“We’re really pleased to have their help,” says trustee Iona McNaughton. “In fact, the girls have chosen Blue Dragon as the charity they want to support this year and are organising a couple of fundraising events.”
Interact will be hosting the movie night fundraiser at Penthouse Cinema in Brooklyn on 19 June with the movie “How to Train your Dragon”. There will also be a Quiz Night fundraiser later in the year. Further details about the two events will be posted on Interact’s Instagram account (@interactportnic).
Building connections with charities
Co-President Katherine Ng says: “Being part of the Interact Club of Port Nicholson has helped me grow in many ways. I’ve met many new people, built connections with charities and become more confident speaking to businesses. It has also deepened my passion for helping others.”
This will be the 14th Blue Dragon Book Fair in the Ngaio Townhall and all proceeds, as always, will be sent to Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation in Hanoi to support its work to improve the lives of Vietnamese children by breaking the poverty cycle through education and training, and stopping child trafficking.
Last year, we raised a record $28,515 – smashing the previous year’s record by more than $4000. We, the trustees of Blue Dragon Children’s Trust NZ, hope to raise a similar amount this year.
