This year’s popular Blue Dragon Book Fair will be held in the Ngaio Townhall, Wellington over the weekend of 17 and 18 May with all proceeds supporting the Blue Dragon Children's Centre in Hanoi. We will be taking your book donations from 9am Saturday 19 April until 5pm Tuesday 13 May (see below for details).
We welcome your donations of books, DVDs, CDs, records, puzzles and board games. We are always pleased to see the quality of the children's books and how popular they are with families.
Please donate good-quality books only: NO books in bad condition, and no old atlases, academic text books, ex-library books, encyclopaedias or magazines. There is also a limited market for self-help books, travel guides and older recipe books, so please be selective with these.
We would be grateful also if books arrive in bags or standard or smaller boxes that can be lifted easily – or banana boxes, which are our favourites! In the month before the book fair, trustees and helpers pre-sort all the books into genre categories (e.g. fiction, non-fiction, biography, cook books, hobbies etc) into the banana boxes. They then fit tidily on to the trestle tables. Offers to help with this sorting, in the month beforehand, are always welcome.
We have the same arrangement as previously with Kennards Storage, which is at the bottom of Sar Street (19 Hutt Road). Books can be dropped in the downstairs area there, on the right-hand side, clearly labelled 'Blue Dragon' but, please note, only from Saturday 19 April, Easter Saturday.
Kennards Storage is open M-F 8.30am-6pm; Sat 9-5; Sunday 10-4pm. Sunday hours will apply on Easter Monday and Kennards will NOT be open on Anzac Day, 25 April.
This will be the 14th Blue Dragon Book Fair to be held in the Ngaio Townhall and all proceeds, as always will be sent to Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation in Hanoi to support its work to improve the lives of Vietnamese children by breaking the poverty cycle through education and training, and stopping child trafficking.
Last year, we raised a record $28,515 – smashing the previous year’s record by more than $4000. We, the trustees of Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation NZ, hope to raise a similar amount this year.
“Without a doubt, it’s the best book fair I’ve been to – and I’ve been to a lot,” said one librarian about the Blue Dragon Book Fair.
Please email trustee Iona (iona.mcnaughton@gmail.com) if you have any questions or want to help.
